Just wondering how everyone is feeling about your current local scene.
Are you happy with the location, turnout, events, or anything/everything else?

What would you like to change or add?

Any ideas even outside of the weekly event would be cool too.
Monthly one day weekend event? Everyone seemed to enjoy the last one we did. Any thoughts?

One thing to remember is we can't only rely on our local promoters, anything we can do to help is going to benifit the whole scene in the long run!

I always thought an Alberta cup would be awesome. I know we talked about it before but we could do a local qualifier in both cities to determine the teams, and the top 6 from Edmonton and Calgary then face off against each other kind of like a world cup format. We could even live stream it for anyone who wants to watch. It would take some commitment and cooperation though.

I'm also going to try and get more video. I think watching games, espeically your own when you play well, pumps you up to play more.

Speaking of which, I'm going to make an effort to film the finals for this Thursday at Dukes and post it up after. Should be fun.

Good thread Ben, I'd love to hear what everyone else has to say.

Unfortunately the last few weeks I've had my son's football games on Tuesdays & Thursdays so I've been unable to support either night's foos events. It's probably going to be a little while longer until I can make it out.

I would enjoy big turnouts with tough competition like we had at Gateway, but unsure why some of those "regulars" don't make it out to either of the nights now?

It's a good question. Let me know if there's an answer

If we could figure out the logistics for an Alberta Cup i'd be all for it. There's only so many challenge table/pick up games you can play without craving some actual competitive foosball.

Alberta Friendly's Tournament rotating Calgary/ Edmonton or even Red Deer 3-4 times a year. I know it is easier said then done, but you asked for ideas. If they were set dates it is easier to plan and commit.

For the winter season it would be better to get some Saturday mid-afternoon (2:30 - 3:30 start) singles or DYP events going to allow players to play on more likely off-work days and also allow out of towners to join in on a more regular basis.
Play two or three events should there be enough tables.

This past winter was no way for me to get to any week day tournies due to travel time from after work.

When players would want a regular tournament that means usually a Week-end time slot...and maybe that is the best thing to have more regular weekly events run at least two or more times a month anyways since it best reflects a normal tournament slot time.

Carey - I wouldn't mind helping run a weekend tournament here and there. Do you guys think people would show up to those and what kind of payout scheme would people expect from that?

Calgary guys - what kind of payouts would it take to get some of you up here for a Saturday?

Could be same question to y'all as well. I'd toss in some dough.

It's all about participation. You get 15+ teams at $20 a head...

Andy, I could be interested in setting up a home and home type deal in the spring, if you're interested.. I dont think anyone likes driving down highway 2 in the middle of an Alberta winter.

It's too bad we don't get to see you folks from Calgary more often, especially considering how close we are compared to anywhere else.

The plethora of B.C. respondents answers Ben's question of "how everyone is feeling about your current local scene" far more accurately and succinctly than I would be able to.

For me I much prefer DYPs' to challenge table so the long drive up to Juliets here in Calgary isn't really worth it. Others I have talked to echo that sentiment. We used to have an annual major here too but I don't know if we are going to have one this year. At the very least what I would like to see before the new year is a modest city championships. It doesn't have to be a major, just something to spark a little interest. I guess there are leagues too, I don't know, and I don't know how much I would come out even if there were DYPs', but if we could pick a day next month and for the interested players throw the city championships. Then we would know who is going to the Provincial Closed, if and when we have that. In Calgary like Vancouver there is no one actively promoting foos the way Will is up in Edmonton. The interest he has generated is the envy of all the owner/operators across western Canada and is so contagious the players are now promoting Will, i think the best thing for foosball would be if you wrote a book.

... promoting. Will ...
