Nantes is beautiful. I wish you were all here. But if you were then I wouldn't be playing. Ha ha.

My buddies here took me to McDonalds. I was going to order a Royal wit' cheese like Tarantino would want me to but their other burger was better. (belch)

Finished 4 and 4. Lots of fun.

Tabernac, what the hell did Johnny just say?

Well done Fred!

I happened to notice the live results around 1am and ended up following the qualification round until you were eliminated around 3:30am. No video feed - just results of each match on the PDF files. There were a couple players that got into the elimination round with 4 wins but they had real gaudy goal differential numbers. The lowest 4&4 qualifier had GDif +5 and you finished at -2.

I'm sharing those details because that specific Goal Diff. info isn't on the site anymore - or at least where it was last night.

Also worth mentioning that you were the only player to beat Pappas in that round. He went 7&1 and that loss would have implications for his seeding in the next round.

Again, well done. Earl

Im confused, Fred, what is 4 and 4? you beat pappas 7 to 1?

Author: van_can_foos Reply #7 Posted: Jan 7 2010 7:56PM

Dave,

The four best players in the world were atomatically seeded into the final Elimination round of 32 players. All remaining (54?) players had to play a Qualification round in order to earn the remaining 28 spots in the Elimination round.

All players in the Qualification round played against 8 opponents. Pappas won 7 & lost only against Fred, leaving Pappas seeded near the top. Fred won 4 times & lost 4 times, just missing out on qualifying for the Elimination round.

Earl

that clears everything up...

Almost Freddy, the competition must be world class..

Tell Tommy I said hello, How's her game?

Author: ButHeDoesntLookAsian Reply #9 Posted: Jan 8 2010 6:23PM

Thanks for checking stuff out everyone. Having a blast here. Lots of stories to tell but too much typing involved. I didn't beat Billie but almost did. Not sure what I can say about that online but will give you all the full story next month when back in town for Olympics. Seen LOTS of good players from even the Baltic countries and Portugal, Spain etc. Easy to stay humble here. Really good Hungarian lady player here too I had never heard of before.

In fun games I kicked the best two Russian players butts and the Garlando Junior world champion too. Mwahaha.

Sorry Fred. That occured to me - I shouldda STFU.

On a lighter note: Stop beating up on kiddie players on their toy tables.

I am back in Shanghai now. Totally jet lagged.

Check some other threads to see the controversy of the French team getting caught cheating. Too funny. OK, a little sad too for the sport.

With all of their in your face attitude, group cheering etc. it is easy to hate the French. I still really like them however, they add so much to the atmoshpere and are so good on their own table. But it is still fun when they lose, especially when teams like the Americans beat them even on their own table - Bonzini. Too much fun.

----

In warmups the day before the event one of their coaches (the one with the bald head if you check out some of the pictures) came over to challenge me while I was warming up on a Tornado table. Figured he would school the fat old guy (from "Canada" of all places). I beat him pretty easy a few times which totally pissed him off. Whenever I would pass by him for the next few days he would either look away or say something in French about "Bonzini".

----

I was there to play in the World Championship Singles event and to get experience if I qualify next year for the seniors event. I didn't really consider myself part of team Canada because I was not there on merit and did not want anyone to think that my skill level was indicative of the level of play of Team Canada. They announced meetings for the International teams which I don't go to even though I am the only Canadian player there. But I was still proud to be wearing my Canadian colours, including my CBC Olympics jacket from 2002 Winter Olympics, and my Chinese knockoff 2010 red Canadian men’s Olympic hockey jersey. So anyway I was in the stands getting ready for the teams to be introduced, sitting near the American team who I was planning on rooting for, and they announce my name and ask me to come to the main desk. Once there, they tell me that I will be carrying in the team flag and what to do, so I interrupt them and say that I am not the Canadian team. In fact once the Fireball manufacturer from China offered to pay my way there so I could help him in his demonstration booth I was trying to play for Team China. They wouldn't let me since I am not a Chinese citizen. I didn't even ask Eric if I could play for Canada as I didn't think that I deserved to based on merit and didn't want other countries thinking that I was Canada's best player. They end up asking Eric on my behalf and he kindly agrees to let me play in the event as a Wild Card. Thanks Eric.

So back to the story, I tell the organizer this and that I didn't feel comfortable carrying the flag. Now, I couldn't be prouder of the Canadian team and I try to be the loudest supporter when I am in Vegas but I don't consider myself to be "the Canadian team". She asks again and once again I politely refuse. Standing next to us was a lady by herself that who was listening in and she said that she was the Hungarian team and was there by herself and that I should do the same for Canada. The organizing lady also said that Canada should be represented and that I did well in the Singles qualifier so I would be a good representative. So after a while, I agree to walk in and to carry the flag. For the good of the sport and for the good of Canadian foosball...

They announce the teams in alphabetical order. I think that I was following Brazil. I notice how well behaved all the teams were. Flag carried low and still, everyone well behaved, looking proud but reserved while their anthem was being played then getting off the stage as quickly as possible.

There I was, feeling like I shouldn't really even be there. But, still feeling that the people there should know how good Canada actually is at this game and how we planned on kicking their butts when the full team makes it out next time. So as I start to walk out I hold the flag high, much higher than the other teams and I start waving it. Much more than any of the other teams do. When the anthem starts I say m

Way to go Freddie<--------

Did you have any Pernod avec de l'eau

Please post links to any pics or vids especially of you sing O Canada

Author: ButHeDoesntLookAsian Reply #13 Posted: Jan 13 2010 3:47AM

No Pernod and will never post me singing O Canada. Will deny it ever happened if it is posted. Photoshopped, hacked, aliens, North Korean plot - whatever!

Will post other vids and pics in a day or so.

Where do I go to read about the Froggies cheatin'?

Author: ButHeDoesntLookAsian Reply #15 Posted: Jan 13 2010 6:30AM

foosballboard.net or britfoos.com

In France they are twisting it and saying that I cheated. Something about Milli Vanilli dubbed my singing of O Canada. And here I was hoping for the French Order of Merit like Jerry Lewis has. Merde!

Fred, I can totally picture it, well described. A proud Canadian moment if you ask me.

It was funny, honest, cute, and inspirational. Well Done Fred, Well done!!

Nice Pics Fred ... Canada sure looks like the super power it is in Foos by this photo .

Wait!!! Could this be a pic of you singing O Canada

Author: ButHeDoesntLookAsian Reply #20 Posted: Jan 14 2010 3:25PM

No. You photoshopped it!

Damn spy for the Hungarian team no doubt...

Author: Aged Whine & Cheese Reply #21 Posted: Jan 14 2010 5:11PM

If you had done a little can-can dance to that number, then you could have marketed yourself as The Fredrockettes. Always knew there was some talent hidden in you somewhere - I kept thinking it would come out in your foos skills but at least it came out in something.

Cool Jackie Chan is flogging Foosball tables now. On another note, we should get this sign for Soho

Author: ButHeDoesntLookAsian Reply #24 Posted: Jan 15 2010 2:41AM

Too funny! Dennis, does get called Jackie Chan by a number of people.

I do love that sign though. But aren't the guys foosballs hanging a little too low though? Maybe he is playing too much foosball and not lightening the load at home enough? Just a thought...

So, that would explain why he is frowning. But why is she smiling? Maybe getting it on with Pacman while foosball man is off spinning his rods? Tim, any opinions?

Author: dfnder Reply #25 Posted: Jan 15 2010 2:55AM

Smiling - most girls would like them that way, at least until they developed back problems.

Frowning - C'mon you must remember the last time you were kicked in the balls! It would feel worse if you kicked your own!

Author: ButHeDoesntLookAsian Reply #26 Posted: Jan 15 2010 3:28AM

But if you were kicked in the foosballs would that make them retreat back in instead of falling to the floor? Yes?

Tim, you must know the answer to that one?

Author: Red Pepper Reply #27 Posted: Jan 15 2010 2:24PM

I think every one is misreading what the guy sign represents...

Author: dfnder Reply #28 Posted: Jan 16 2010 12:26AM

It has been too long since Tim first commented on phallic foosball. Oh those were the days... I must be getting old
