Topic: Changes in Edmonton

Although we havn't played much Foosball in the past two or three weeks, it has been a very eventful time for the EFL.

1. We will not be playing Foosball at Gateway anymore.

- The service, management, and time restrictions have become too much to bear

- In a letter from the GM of Gateway he said "We are in the midst of an audit for revenue Canada and will need to forward that information to explain any of our income from the tables."
I wrote back saying it isn't my job to do there taxes, and they should track there own revenue, essentially. I think the problem is that someone at Gateway was likely just taking the percentage that the tables earned them, and just pocketed the money for a couple years.
- They were also very angry about the fact that we brought in Pizza to the establishment (when the kitchen was closed, seems reasonable to me... but its there location) and in the letter adressed that by saying "Your Foosball players have overstepped the boundries at Gateway".
I thought it would be ok for people to bring pizza in if they don't have a kitchen open, but they do get to make the rules.
- To make a long story short, the EFL and Gateway management decided that it would be best if we moved on and did not run a foosball league in Gateway anymore.

2. Dukes Bar and Grill is the Northside location!

- We are VERY excited about Dukes. The manager is thrilled to have the EFL in Dukes and has promised to do what he can to provide excellent service for us.

- The tables are located in a private room upstairs, we can show up any time we want to. My bet is that the players will be very impressed with the location that we are playing foosball in.

- Thanks to Dan, Darcy, and Sam for loading the tables into Dukes at 2:00 on Sunday

3. The new home of the EFL: McNally's High Run Club!
www.highrunclub.com
4926 98 Avenue (50 st, 98 ave near Capilanno Mall)

- Tuesday Night Foosball!!! Our tournaments are back on starting Tuesday July 26th! 7:30 start time just like always!

- The location is incredible. Take a look around inside and you will notice the quality of this establishment

- We are starting off with either 4 or 5 tables in the High Run Club

- Top notch beer selection (14 on tap), they don't do an early last call, and stay open late!

- Great menu, excellent food. The servers are a HUGE improvement from Gateway - a serious upgrade in every aspect! Good prices too, but wait until you see the food you get compared to Gateway (oh yeah, they didn't even have a kitchen)

- Management that is really excited to have the EFL involved. He has talked at length about how he is going to do everything he can to make us feel at home. We'll be putting up a poster that says "Home of the EFL", and will have details about our web site and tournament night.

- Dedicating an entire section of the building to accomodate us.

- Top notch sports bar, Monday Night Football, NHL Games, argueably the best bar in Edmonton for watching sports.

- Its a billiard hall too, which means they have hobby oriented people in the location already!

I will take full responsibility for the pizza incident! I was hungry and expected them to be open. They didnt give us any warning that they would be closed, all we did was ask if we could and then we ate outside in a truck. i dont see how we over stepped the boundries. Im excited for two tournaments a week!

Don't worry about it Cam. If anything, you should take credit for it, not responsibility. I'm thrilled that we solved the problems by finding a way better location.

Originally in our business plan, High Run Club was where we wanted to run our league. They said no a few years ao, so we ended up at Gateway... Now everything has worked out perfectly. I can only see upside in this, although I bet that with the effort we put in to growing foos at Gateway they will stil have random people dropping in for a few years looking for tables.

High run is a way better place, Im stoked were going there. Hopefully we can get some more people out this way too. i like new faces at the tournaments! Did you need a hand taking some tables over to high run?

Not yet, probably next week some time. I'm talking to Dukes on Friday about when we will move tables.

That was some great pizza we shared with Dan and Scott sitting in the pickup box of Scotts truck hey Cam.. lol.
As I said everything happens for a reason, and the pizza was the final topping on the road to finding a better location for the EFL, and getting even more new faces involved in the sport. Gateway is like the crazy ex girlfriend who will miss us when were gone.. lol... Happy dance goes here... Woot Woot!

The High Run Club is close to my work site and that would save me travel time for Tuesday events.

Although the date of July 26 I am at a work meeting, so probably will not be there to play the 1st time the league starts up again.
I have been inside High Run, looks good, no escalators to go up/down. :)

"They were also very angry about the fact that we brought in Pizza to the establishment"

Having worked in the restaurant industry years at start of my career, I know the reason why I wouldn't allow it,,, Legal Liability-essentially they would be accountable for any food borne illness resulting from it-even although they did not serve it.

Now I do not believe (based on how they ran their business) that they were that smart to know this.

Good riddance!!!!

Also.... the last two posters here might want to take note of this, but the High Run Club is trying to book a bunch of gigs for the fall. They have a new stage installed and are starting up a live music thing on the weekends from my understanding.

Author: Funk Brotha Reply #16 Posted: Jul 14 2011 3:58PM

Yah! how many groups do we have in the EFL? It would be great to get them booked in.

Author: Darcy Reply #17 Posted: Jul 14 2011 4:23PM

Would be pretty sweet to see foosers up on stage while we foose!

Author: Will Reply #18 Posted: Jul 14 2011 6:43PM

Yeah, that would be great. At least 3 bands through foosers, and I might be missing some.

Author: Will Reply #21 Posted: Jul 15 2011 5:10PM

Not happy with Sherlock Holmes?

It is in West Edmonton Mall, which in case you didn't read the Foosballboard...

C.A.L "...will be in the West end of Edmonton at the West Edmonton Mall location."

Tony Clifton: "Probably why it's called West Edmonton Mall."

Author: S. Edwards Reply #22 Posted: Jul 15 2011 11:58PM

Tony Clifton is really Andy Kaufman. It's True.
