Topic: Dukes Last Night

Author: Darcy Original Message Posted: Jul 15 2011 10:46AM

Hey guys, Just wanted to say thanks for coming last night. I feel as though our first night at Dukes was a huge success and a strong showing for the league.

The tables and lights weren't ideal but I was really impressed with the players attitudes last night. Everyone was relaxed and it seemed as though the group as a whole had a good time. That might have something to do with the fact that the food was good, the waitress actually cared how we were doing, and the managers weren't trying to rush us out of there or close the kitchen early, but having our own space might have helped too, it kind of had a club house feel to it.

Something else that stood out to me was the fact that the bar sent up pitchers of coke and water when we first got there, on the house. It's something small, but the fact that they even thought of it gives me hope for the future.

I'll work with the bar to see what we can do to make it even better going forward, but this was definitely a good foot forward. Thanks, see you next Thursday!

I had alot of fun last night, there were some good teams. It was great playing with tony for the first time.
I also hope that it being on the complete opposite side of the city brings some more people out to play who wouldnt normally come. I know a few friends from the northside that want to come check it out!
Plus the food was good!

It really did have a private clubhouse feeling to it, and yes it was very relaxing. Service was great, food was awesome and tourney was lots of fun as usual. Looking forward to future events here.

So is Dukes and Time out on Thursdays?

Author: .ChrisG Reply #4 Posted: Jul 15 2011 1:11PM

I agree, Dukes totally added a clubhouse feel to the tournament, which was great. I was glad this night happened to be the first time I brought Tony out to the league. He learned a lot playing with Ben, and after an initial shock of the competitiveness of the league, he really warmed up to the style of play and had a great time battling through his games. Thanks to everyone who offered him tips as well.

Tony played great man, he smoked a couple of long sprays from the back, one to close out a game at 4-4. Hope to see him back so we we can get him playing in tournaments!

Simon - I believe so, yes.

We are going to try to turn Time Out into what it was originally planned for, a Beginner/Drop in night. It has maintained a much less competitive atmosphere and it is nice to keep it that way. Also there are a few people on the far south side that probably won't make the trip to Dukes every thursday.

We have a pretty big player base on the North Side in Edmonton also, but it remains largely unexplored by the EFL, i'm sure we can tap into that market of players and get more people out that havn't been making the drive to Gateway.

This should allow us to average 14-20 players at Dukes and 5-10 at Time Out.

So, Thurs nights at Time Out will be more for new players then? I can't make the Thursday nights at Duke's, but will be trying to make it to High Run on Tuesday now.

Come on Will, how about updating the points from the last night at gateway. If you don't have the charts its not hard to figure out who played who.

Author: Darcy Reply #12 Posted: Jul 18 2011 3:54PM

i know will's been pretty busy lately, I'm sure he'll get to them soon.

Author: cnote Reply #13 Posted: Jul 18 2011 4:29PM

Hey Simon I just got back from vacation. Points will be entered tonight.

Author: S. Edwards Reply #14 Posted: Jul 18 2011 4:33PM

You da man Chad!

Author: Will Reply #15 Posted: Jul 18 2011 5:45PM

I think what Chad means is that I'll be picking up the chart from him tonight... Hopefully I can do a points update too, but worst case scenario would be tomorrow afternoon some time.
