FYI, I'd never ever try to intentionally "dead" a ball. Every opportunity I get with my left hand is an offensive one. Meaning if I can touch or grab it I'm going to, irregardless of the score or situation.

In fact I'd probably swing or slap at the ball harder than anyone else I know in town. Implying anything else is just spineless, advantageous at best, and completely lacking in honour and sportsmanship.

Being competitive during play is one thing..but always trying to weasel everything to your advantage is just ignorant. Especially when you just got smashed the game before and try to pull a fast one.

And when 2 old timers call you on a spin, be a man and dont try to pull a fast one there.. even the spectators can plainly see it. shame is a strong emotion.

Only commenting because this is still causing some heartburn, the game is supposed to be FRIENDLY competition, and we are all to win or lose graciously.

Now the other issue here is the reaching in to the table without your permission. In that case rule 18.5 says you should have been awarded a technical shot.

In your case 'intentionally' deading can be subject to interpretation, the rule as written does not differentiate between front and back of man, that is just how it has been subjectively determined in most cases. The rule clearly looks for 'intent' as the deciding factor (whether with front or back of man) which requires a personal judgment. However in his case, reaching in without first having your permission is clearly and objectively a technical foul per section 18.5. End result by the book, you should have been awarded the technical shot, but it is history and cannot be rewritten.

All that is left now is for everyone to let this go lest I must resort to bringing out a big stick....
